SimpleLogin: Create an email alias and stop receiving spam
Every time you register on a website with your real Gmail, that email address becomes exposed. If the website suffers a data leak, sells your data to spam lists, or simply abuses your information — your inbox pays the price. And changing your email address is rarely an option.
SimpleLogin solves this with a straightforward idea: instead of giving out your Gmail, you provide an alias — an alternative address that redirects emails to your real inbox. If that alias starts receiving spam, you simply deactivate it. Your Gmail address is never revealed.
What is SimpleLogin?
SimpleLogin is an email alias service. It allows you to create alternative addresses that act as intermediaries between the outside world and your real email. It is developed by Proton — the same company behind Proton Mail and Proton VPN.
This isn't a "disposable" email service. These are permanent addresses that you can activate or deactivate whenever you want, and from which you can send and receive emails without revealing your true identity.
How it works
The flow is as follows:
- You give the alias to a website when signing up.
- The website sends you an email → it arrives at the alias.
- SimpleLogin redirects it to your real Gmail inbox.
- You reply from Gmail → SimpleLogin intercepts the response.
- The recipient receives your reply from the alias — they never see your real Gmail address.
For this to work, you must always reply to the forwarded email — do not create a brand-new email. If you compose a new email directly from Gmail, it will be sent from your real address.
Step-by-step: Create your first alias
Go to simplelogin.io and create an account. Enter your email and a new password. If you already have a Proton Mail account, you can log in directly with your Proton credentials — SimpleLogin is fully integrated into the Proton ecosystem.

You will receive a confirmation email. Open it and click the verification link. From here, you will have access to your dashboard.
Upon registration, SimpleLogin automatically creates an alias for its own communications. You will see something like simplelogin-newsletter.word@simplelogin.com. This isn't the alias you will use for websites — it is just for account-related notifications.

In the dashboard, you have two buttons: New Custom Alias and Random Alias. The random alias generates an address instantly. The custom one lets you write a prefix — but on the free plan, the alias will include a random word in the middle, for example: netflix.word123@simplelogin.com. With your own domain, that word disappears — this is a premium feature.

When creating the alias, select your Gmail in the "Mailbox" field. If it doesn't appear, go to Settings → Mailboxes → edit the existing mailbox and change the address to your Gmail. SimpleLogin will send a verification email to Gmail to confirm it.
The first time you receive an email via an alias, Gmail might send it to the spam folder. This is normal — Gmail doesn't recognize the sender yet. Open the spam folder, find the email, and click "Report as not spam". From then on, they will go straight to your inbox. Pro tip: Add the alias address to your Gmail contacts.
Free vs. Premium Plan
SimpleLogin offers a free plan that is functional for most users. These are the real differences:
| Feature | Free | Premium (approx. €30/year) |
|---|---|---|
| Aliases | Up to 10 | Unlimited |
| Mailboxes | 1 | Unlimited |
| Custom Alias | With random word in the middle | Fully customisable |
| Own Domain | ❌ | ✅ |
| Subdomains | ❌ | ✅ |
| Reply from Alias | ✅ | ✅ |
With 10 aliases, you have more than enough to get started. Use them for the services where privacy matters most: banks, online shops, and important newsletters. For everything else, you can continue using your normal Gmail.
Protect your SimpleLogin account with a security key
Your aliases are useless if someone gains access to your SimpleLogin account. With a physical security key, even if someone steals your password, they cannot enter without the physical device in their hand.
The most affordable options from Yubico are more than enough to protect SimpleLogin, Proton Mail, and the rest of your accounts:

Is SimpleLogin worth it?
If you use Gmail to sign up for websites and are tired of spam, the free plan is more than enough. 10 aliases cover the services that matter most.
If you want completely "clean" aliases without random words and with your own domain, the premium plan at approx. €30/year makes sense — especially if you already use Proton Mail, as everything is managed from the same place.
What doesn't make sense is continuing to give your real Gmail to every website that asks for it. Try SimpleLogin for free →
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work with any Gmail account?
Yes. SimpleLogin is compatible with any Gmail account. You only need to verify your address when setting up the mailbox.
Does the alias reveal my name?
It depends on how you set it up. If you use the random generator, the alias has no link to your name. Use neutral prefixes — for example, the name of the website: netflix.word@simplelogin.com.
What happens if I deactivate an alias?
Emails sent to that alias will stop arriving. The website will still have the address, but their messages won't reach you. You can reactivate it at any time from the dashboard.
Can I use it with Proton Mail?
Yes, and it is the most convenient combination. If you already have a Proton account, you can log in to SimpleLogin directly with your Proton credentials and manage aliases within the same ecosystem.
Is it safe to use the alias for my bank?
Technically, yes. However, for critical services like banks, it is advisable to use an email address that you control directly, without intermediaries. SimpleLogin is ideal for commercial websites, newsletters, and app sign-ups.
